Syria Arms Depot Blasts Injure Four in Aleppo

A Syrian army weapons depot near Al-Eis in Aleppo province experienced multiple explosions early Monday, injuring four people and forcing local villagers to evacuate. This incident represents the fourth reported blast at a military storage facility in Syria this month.

The Emergency and Disaster Management Ministry confirmed four injuries, including one from falling shrapnel, according to state news agency SANA. Authorities closed roads to the site as rescue workers assisted residents fleeing nearby homes.

Depot Explosions Across Syria

The latest blasts were heard in surrounding towns, with one resident describing an hour-long series of explosions as terrifying. The incident near Al-Eis adds to a pattern of unexplained explosions at military storage sites across the country, raising concerns among the local populace.

Syria's Defense Ministry stated it is investigating the causes of these explosions at various military sites. The ministry has pledged to implement measures designed to prevent similar incidents in the future, acknowledging the recurring nature of these events.

Growing Number of Incidents

This month alone, at least three other explosions have occurred at similar facilities. These include a September 9 blast at a weapons depot in neighboring Idlib province, which resulted in 14 fatalities, and another incident in eastern Syria last week that killed 11 people.

Since December 2024, at least 16 similar explosions have affected arms storage facilities across Syria, according to an analysis by Reuters. Syrian authorities have attributed some previous incidents to factors such as poor storage conditions, fires, or deteriorated ammunition.

The exact causes for several of these explosions, including the recent event in Aleppo, have not been publicly established or confirmed.
