Ukraine Drone Attack Kills Three in Moscow Region

Ukrainian drone attacks on May 17, 2026, resulted in at least three fatalities in the Moscow region, with 12 additional injuries reported from other drone strikes across Russia. Moscow regional Governor Andrei Vorobyov confirmed that a woman died in Khimki, north of Moscow, and two men were killed in the village of Pogorelki in the Mytishchi district, following a drone strike that damaged homes and infrastructure. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that the technology at Moscow's oil refinery was not damaged, though three houses sustained damage. Russia's defense ministry reported downing 556 drones overnight and into the morning, including those targeting the Moscow region. Over 120 drones were reportedly downed in the preceding 24 hours.
