Russian missiles hit Ukraine, at least seven killed

Russian forces carried out a wide-ranging overnight assault across Ukraine that left at least seven people dead, Ukrainian officials said. Five of the fatalities were reported in Dnipro after an apartment building was hit, and rescue teams were still searching for survivors on Saturday morning. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the strikes lasted “practically all night.”

Officials said the attack combined drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic munitions. Targets included residential buildings, energy infrastructure, and enterprises, according to Ukrainian accounts. The strikes added to pressure on Ukraine’s power system and civilian areas as the war continues.

At the same time, Ukraine launched long-range drone attacks into Russia, according to reports from inside Russia. In Yekaterinburg, about 1,600 km (1,000 miles) from the Ukrainian border, six people were injured when a building was struck. In the nearby Chelyabinsk area, drones aimed at an industrial facility were reported to have been intercepted.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense said it shot down 127 drones across multiple regions. The ministry also said Russian forces had taken control of the village of Bochkove in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, a claim that had not been verified by Ukrainian authorities in the information available.

The overnight barrage also drew attention in neighboring Romania. Romania’s defense ministry said it was investigating the fall of an object near its border during the Russian attack. The ministry added that British jets scrambled from Romania did not engage Russian drones because the drones did not enter Romanian airspace.

Separately, Zelensky met Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as Ukraine continues to seek international backing. Zelensky said the talks covered strengthening cooperation on air defense and joint military production. The meeting underscored Kyiv’s push to widen partnerships beyond Europe and North America while the conflict continues to generate security concerns for countries near the fighting and for global markets sensitive to energy and geopolitical risk.
