Russia Escalates Strategic Air Campaign Against Ukrainian Infrastructure

Russia has shifted its military strategy toward a systematic, long-term aerial campaign aimed at degrading Ukraine’s economic and civil infrastructure. By targeting railways, energy grids, port facilities, and fuel distribution networks, Moscow seeks to paralyze state functionality and render urban centers uninhabitable ahead of the winter season.

This escalation is supported by a significant increase in domestic ballistic missile production, which currently reaches approximately 100 units per month. Concurrently, the deployment of advanced, high-speed jet-powered drones has increased the frequency of air alerts and overwhelmed existing defensive capabilities.

Ukraine faces a critical shortage of anti-ballistic missile interceptors, exacerbated by limited international supply and competing global defense requirements. The resulting defensive gap allows for sustained strikes on logistics and supply chains, which are currently driving significant inflation in fuel and commodity prices.

Western policymakers face mounting pressure to increase air defense support to prevent a potential humanitarian crisis and large-scale population displacement. Without a surge in interceptor availability, the current trajectory suggests a continued erosion of Ukraine’s domestic economic stability and operational capacity.
