The Kuala Lumpur High Court on Tuesday acquitted former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin of four criminal charges, including three counts of money laundering and one count of abuse of power. The charges were linked to the Jana Wibawa government program, which was designed to support contractors during the COVID-19 pandemic. This judicial decision prevents the state from reviving these specific four charges in future legal proceedings.
Muhyiddin Cleared in Jana Wibawa Case
Prosecutors decided to drop the four counts against Muhyiddin, leading to the full acquittal. High Court judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin issued the full acquittal, rejecting a prosecutorial request for a discharge not amounting to an acquittal. A discharge not amounting to an acquittal would have permitted the charges to be reintroduced later.
