Ukraine Moves to Seize IDS Ukraine Assets

Ukrainian authorities are seeking to seize control of IDS Ukraine, a major domestic bottled water producer, as part of an ongoing effort to nationalize assets linked to sanctioned Russian interests. The Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA) is currently attempting to install independent management at the firm, which is partially owned by the Patarkatsishvili family and Russian oligarch Mikhail Fridman.

The dispute centers on a 34 percent stake held by the Patarkatsishvili family and a 49 percent stake held by Russian investors, including Fridman, who is under Western sanctions for his ties to the Kremlin. ARMA officials argue that the seizure is necessary to prevent potential value extraction and ensure the stability of a strategic asset during the ongoing conflict.

The agency has reported significant legal and bureaucratic resistance from current shareholders, alongside allegations of cyber interference during the management transition process.

The Patarkatsishvili family, which inherited its stake in 2008, maintains that it is being unfairly targeted despite not being subject to international sanctions. Representatives for the family have stated they are prepared to pursue litigation in international courts if Ukrainian judicial proceedings result in the loss of their holdings.

Meanwhile, Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine continues to investigate claims of administrative misconduct related to the seizure process. IDS Ukraine maintains that it has operated in full compliance with national financial and tax regulations throughout the war.
