On Saturday, May 2, a Russian drone attack on a bus in Kherson, Ukraine, resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to seven others. The majority of the casualties were public utility workers, according to regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin. This incident is part of ongoing Russian military actions targeting areas near the front lines, particularly in Kherson, which was recaptured by Ukrainian forces in 2022 after being seized by Russia earlier in its full-scale invasion.
Ukrainian officials, including human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, characterized these attacks as a systemic policy of terror against the civilian population. Kherson has experienced increased attacks from Russian forces positioned across the Dnipro River. Concurrently, the southern Odesa region also faced overnight attacks, damaging a warehouse and adjacent buildings at a port.
Ukraine's air force reported intercepting 142 out of 163 long-range drones launched by Russia during the overnight period. These drone operations highlight the persistent aerial threat faced by Ukrainian cities and infrastructure in the conflict zone.
