He is also accused of transmitting photographs of NATO military convoys and public buildings within Berlin. Furthermore, Sergej K. allegedly offered to recruit additional espionage agents in Germany.
This incident marks the latest in a series of alleged Russian-linked espionage and disinformation activities identified by German authorities since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Previous cases include the 2024 arrests of two German-Russian dual nationals suspected of planning sabotage against U.S.
military sites in Germany, and the apprehension of individuals described as 'disposable' agents. Russia has consistently denied involvement in such schemes, while Germany has condemned these actions as unacceptable threats to its support for Ukraine.
