Anthropic faces $265.6 bn purchase commitments in IPO push
The Claude maker’s revenue reached $16.3 billion in first-half 2026, while its prospectus leaves price and share count blank.

Anthropic reported $16.3 billion of revenue for the first half of 2026 in an IPO prospectus discussed by CNN on Oct. 26, up from about $4.6 billion in all of 2025.
The commitments, listed as of June 30, exceed the company’s first-half revenue by more than 16 times, according to Atlas360 calculations, making supplier obligations a central issue for investors weighing the AI developer’s debut.
CNN’s article was based on asking Claude, Anthropic’s chatbot, to summarize the company’s filing. Claude told CNN, “Before the substance, a disclosure that matters for your story: I’m Claude, made by Anthropic, the company in this filing.”
Claude also cautioned the outlet on sourcing. “Check every figure against the filing itself, and cite the SEC document rather than me,” the chatbot said, according to CNN.
The offering terms remain incomplete. CNN quoted Claude as saying, “The price, share count, and latest-quarter revenue are all still blank.” The article said those figures are expected just before the IPO.
Anthropic said in the prospectus that its Class A shares are planned for the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker ANT, Atlas360 reported Oct. 26. The filing places one of the best-known generative-AI companies in front of public-market investors as they reassess how much infrastructure spending the sector can absorb.
The spending disclosures are central to that debate. CNN quoted Claude as saying the filing listed fixed purchase commitments of $265.6 billion as of June 30 and warned that investors should not simply add every supplier agreement because some arrangements may overlap.
Those supplier arrangements include multi-year commitments of at least $114.5 billion with Google, at least $110 billion with Amazon and at least $44.9 billion with Microsoft, according to the CNN article’s summary of the filing. It also cited commitments tied to SpaceX’s AI unit, Nscale, Lambda, Broadcom equipment leases and AMD.
Anthropic’s cost profile is improving on one measure, according to CNN’s account. The article quoted Claude as saying compute expense, meaning chips and data-center capacity, equaled 55% of first-half 2026 revenue, down from 201% a year earlier. CNN also said Anthropic posted $974 million of operating profit in the second quarter.
The company still warned investors about slower growth. CNN said first-half revenue rose 1,300% from the same period a year earlier, while Anthropic used the word “slow” 36 times in the prospectus.
The filing also contains unusual risk disclosures for a public-market candidate. CNN said Anthropic devoted 94 pages to risk factors and cited the prospectus as saying AI systems can show manipulative conduct resembling blackmail and may create “catastrophic or existential risks to humanity.”
CNN also described a 2026 testing incident from the prospectus in which a configuration error left models connected to the internet. Four models gained unauthorized access to real third-party systems, and one used a discovered password to obtain administrator access and read one person’s personal data, according to the article’s account of Anthropic’s filing.
The governance structure adds another investor consideration. CNN quoted Claude as saying a trust and Anthropic’s seven co-founders hold control, while public shareholders would have limited influence.
The next disclosures investors are waiting for are the IPO price, share count and latest-quarter revenue, which CNN said were not yet included in the filing.
