U.S. Awaits Iran's Response on Peace Framework The United States is awaiting Iran's response to a one-page memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at de-escalating conflict and establishing a framework for nuclear negotiations, with U.S. officials anticipating a reply within 24-48 hours. This development follows recent discussions between U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and Iranian officials, facilitated by mediators.
The proposed MOU outlines Iran's commitment to a moratorium on nuclear enrichment, in exchange for the U.S. lisourcesing sanctions and releasing frozen Iranian funds. Both parties would also agree to lisources restrictions on transit through the Strait of Hormuz. The White House seeks a diplomatic resolution before President Trump concludes his trip to China next Friday, with the President indicating potential military action if no agreement is reached.
Despite some U.S. officials expressing skepticism, President Trump conveyed optimism on Wednesday regarding the potential for a deal in the coming days. An Iranian foreign ministry spokesman confirmed that Tehran is reviewing the proposal and has not yet provided its response to Pakistani mediators. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has affirmed close coordination with the U.S. on these negotiations, emphasizing shared goals regarding Iran's nuclear capabilities.
