House Panel Votes Contempt Charge for Leon Black

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has voted 41-0 to recommend that Leon Black, former CEO of Apollo Global Management, be held in contempt of Congress. The recommendation follows Black’s refusal to comply with subpoenas regarding nondisclosure agreements linked to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.

Black previously participated in a voluntary interview but declined to answer questions concerning specific confidentiality agreements. Subsequent subpoenas for his deposition and additional documentation were ignored, prompting the committee to initiate formal contempt proceedings.

The House Oversight

Legislative leaders stated that the inquiry aims to determine if nondisclosure agreements are being utilized to obscure criminal activity. The committee report highlights a historical financial relationship between Black and Epstein, noting payments exceeding $158 million.

Bipartisan support for the measure signals a unified legislative effort to enforce oversight authority. The committee is now pushing for a full House vote to finalize the contempt citation, asserting that private litigation does not exempt individuals from congressional investigative requirements.
