Russia Launches Major Missile, Drone Attack on Ukraine

Russia conducted a large-scale missile and drone attack across Ukraine on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, resulting in at least 22 civilian deaths and over 100 injuries. The assault, which included 73 missiles and 656 drones, primarily targeted Kyiv and the industrial city of Dnipro, causing significant damage to infrastructure and residential buildings.

In Dnipro, a four-story apartment building collapsed, killing at least nine people, including one child. Kyiv experienced four fatalities and 58 injuries, with power disruptions affecting 140,000 residents, though electricity was restored to 110,000. Russia's military stated the strikes targeted Ukraine's military-industrial complex, utilizing hypersonic missiles.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledged the limitations of current air defense supplies in countering such attacks and reiterated calls for increased international assistance, specifically requesting Patriot missile systems from the United States and advocating for Europe to develop its own anti-ballistic defense capabilities. This attack follows a period of intensified Russian aerial bombardment, with Ukraine reporting a record 8,150 long-range drones launched by Russia in May, a 24% increase from April.
