Judge Blocks Perplexity AI Amazon Access
A federal judge has issued an injunction blocking Perplexity's AI agents from accessing Amazon's marketplace, citing unauthorized account access.

A U.S. federal judge on Monday, March 10, 2026, issued a preliminary injunction preventing Perplexity's web browser-based AI agents from placing orders on Amazon's marketplace. U.S. District Judge Maxine Chesney ruled that Amazon provided "strong evidence" that Perplexity's Comet browser accessed user accounts without authorization.
This ruling follows a lawsuit filed by Amazon in November, alleging that Perplexity's agentic shopping feature violated computer fraud and abuse laws by "intruding" into its marketplace and user accounts. Amazon also claimed Perplexity attempted to conceal its activities by misrepresenting Comet as Google Chrome. The injunction mandates that Perplexity cease accessing Amazon via its AI agents and destroy any Amazon data obtained, taking effect in seven days to allow for an appeal.
Amazon stated the ruling prevents unauthorized access, while Perplexity indicated it would continue to advocate for internet users' choice in AI tools. This legal action highlights ongoing disputes regarding AI agent interaction with established online platforms.
