Jio shares surge 21% in Mumbai trading debut

Jio shares climbed 21.36% to debut at 1,358 rupees on Indian exchanges on Wednesday, Oct. 28, generating strong equity demand following the telecommunications operator's initial public offering.

The listing debut established immediate market momentum as trading commenced on both the National Stock Exchange and BSE. Exchange data showed the opening price represented a premium of more than 21% compared with the IPO issue price, drawing substantial volume from domestic retail and institutional accounts during the opening minutes.

Listing premium drives valuation

Executive Director Anant Ambani addressed market participants during the listing ceremony, dedicating the market milestone to the country's broader consumer base. "Jio aapne banaya to fulfil your dreams is our dream," Ambani said in official remarks at the exchange venue, pointing to customer participation in driving the company's network scale.

The successful listing delivers a significant valuation milestone for parent conglomerate Reliance Industries. Analysts said the trading premium reflects investor confidence in domestic telecommunications tariffs and expanding digital service revenues across the country.

Market participants are monitoring secondary market liquidity through the week. Secondary settlement for the debut allocation concludes on Oct. 29, when official institutional holding disclosures are scheduled for release.
