Israel Escalates Lebanon Airstrikes

Israel conducted over 120 airstrikes against targets in Lebanon on Tuesday, marking one of the most intensive bombing days in recent weeks. This escalation, confirmed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, targeted sites linked to Hezbollah across southern Lebanon and the eastern Bekaa Valley, including storage facilities, command centers, and observation points.

The strikes resulted in significant casualties. Lebanon's national news agency reported at least 10 fatalities, including women and children, in Burj al-Shamali, and 12 deaths in Mashghara. The Israeli military stated its operations aimed to remove threats to northern Israeli communities and troops, with Netanyahu indicating a strategy to fortify a security strip several kilometers inside southern Lebanon.

This intensified military action follows a U.S.-brokered ceasefire last month, which now appears to be collapsing. The escalation complicates ongoing negotiations for a definitive end to the conflict with Iran, as Tehran has linked any deal with Washington to an end to Israeli operations in Lebanon. Over 1 million people in Lebanon have been displaced since hostilities began in March, with the Lebanese Health Ministry reporting 3,213 deaths and over 9,700 wounded from Israeli strikes.
