Cargo Ship Targeted in Strait of Hormuz

French shipping group CMA CGM reported on Wednesday that its vessel, the San Antonio, was attacked on Tuesday while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The incident resulted in injuries to crew members and damage to the container ship, marking the latest disruption in the critical shipping route amid ongoing Middle East conflict. The Strait of Hormuz is a vital waterway, with approximately 20% of global oil trade passing through it.

CMA CGM confirmed that the injured crew members have been evacuated and are receiving medical attention. The company declined to provide further details regarding the attack. This event follows a previous incident last month where another CMA CGM vessel received warning shots in the same strait, though no injuries were reported then.

The ongoing conflict has significantly impacted maritime traffic in the region, with CMA CGM noting that 14 of its vessels were stranded in the Gulf at the onset of the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran. The Maltese-flagged San Antonio was reportedly en route to Mundra, India, according to available shipping data.
