Israeli Strikes Kill 12 in Southern Lebanon Amid Ceasefire Violations Israeli forces conducted air strikes in southern Lebanon on Friday, May 1, 2026, resulting in the deaths of at least 12 people, including a child. The attacks occurred primarily in Habboush, located in the Nabatieh district, where eight individuals were killed and at least eight others, including a child and a woman, were wounded. An additional four fatalities were reported in other strikes near Tyre and Nabatieh.

The strikes caused significant destruction, flattening residential buildings and damaging a convent and a school. Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee issued a forced evacuation order for Habboush residents, advising them to move at least 1,000 meters away before the strikes. This follows an attack on the town a day prior without warning, which contributed to 28 reported deaths in Lebanon on Thursday.

These actions transpired despite a U.S.-brokered ceasefire, announced on April 17 and extended to May 17. Hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah have escalated since October 2023, with a previous ceasefire in November 2024 reportedly violated over 10,000 times by Israel.

Lebanon's Ministry of Public Health's Emergency Operations Center reports 2,618 killed and 8,094 wounded since March 2, 2026, when Hezbollah resumed attacks following the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
