Türkiye Desk: Tencent’s Flow Games move tests Türkiye’s mobile thesis

Flow Games’ reported $46 million package shows strategic capital is still selective in Türkiye as mobile game revenues soften.

Türkiye Desk: Tencent’s Flow Games move tests Türkiye’s mobile thesis

Flow Games supplied the main signal from Türkiye’s games week. According to PocketGamer.biz , the Istanbul-based mobile game developer secured a $46 million financing package led by Tencent.

In the same week, Mobidictum said its conference hosted 2,000 attendees in Istanbul on October 7-8, with visitors from more than 65 countries. The money and the crowd point in the same direction: Türkiye’s games market is no longer only a local talent story. It is also a story about global capital and distribution.

Flow Games drew the strategic cheque

The critical word in the Flow Games story is not only “investment”, but “from whom”. PocketGamer.biz reported that roughly three quarters of the financing package came from Tencent, citing a source familiar with the matter. This is a single-source trade press report; the source did not include a company announcement, valuation, or details on how the money will be used.

Even so, the number is not small. According to AppMagic/Gamigion 2026 data in the Türkiye briefing note, Turkish game studios have raised around $3.6 billion since 2009 and averaged 24 deals a year.

Excluding Dream Games’ $2.5 billion 2025 deal, other Turkish studios raised around $234 million in 2025. Within that scale, $46 million does not redefine the whole market by itself, but it does show that a major strategic investor is still watching Türkiye’s mobile games pipeline.

Flow Games’ title Smash Fest also helps explain why the report has surfaced now. PocketGamer.biz wrote that the studio’s physics-based mobile shooter Smash Fest has seen notable download growth in recent months, based on AppMagic estimates.

Download growth is not the same as sales or profit; in mobile, the real question is how long players stay and how much they spend. But for a strategic investor, a rising download curve can be a concrete enough starting point for distribution and user acquisition tests.

The immediate winner is clear: Flow Games gains more room to manoeuvre on bigger marketing, product and live operations decisions. For Tencent, the picture may be broader than an equity investment; Chinese publishers and investors are known to be looking for global product flow, distribution relationships and data learning in mobile. Because the source does not include details such as publishing rights, a controlling stake or management influence, it would not be right to assume them.

The side that loses out, or at least feels the pressure, is more indirect: Turkish mobile studios trying to grow in the same category without a comparable strategic cheque. When buying ads in mobile gets more expensive, capital becomes a competitive tool alongside the product itself. Making a strong game remains essential, but being visible in the store can sometimes be the more expensive sport.

Mobile spending is tightening

The global mobile picture makes the Flow Games news more interesting. PocketGamer.biz , citing Aream & Co’s Q3 2026 Video Game Market Update, wrote that in-app purchases in mobile games fell to $19.6 billion in Q3 2026, a %7 year-on-year decline. In-app purchases mean player spending inside a game on virtual currency, bundles, cosmetics or similar content.

According to the same report, console game revenues fell %12 year-on-year, while the decline for Nintendo was given as %18. That creates two kinds of pressure for Turkish mobile studios.

On one hand, investors fund growing products more selectively. On the other, if it becomes harder to push new games into the top-grossing charts, user acquisition and store optimisation move to the centre of the budget.

That is why Google Play’s product updates matter. PocketGamer.biz wrote that Google Play announced Game Finder, a discovery tool that generates recommendations based on players’ genre and mechanics preferences. Mobilegamer.biz also reported that Google Play is expanding its discovery, curation and AI features. For Turkish studios, the meaning is simple: the store algorithm is becoming a larger part of a product’s fate.

Platformisation is also continuing on the advertising side. PocketGamer.biz wrote that Miniclip launched its AI-powered mobile advertising platform AdSurge as a standalone company for third-party game publishers. According to the report, the initial focus is on mobile games that monetise mainly through in-game advertising. User acquisition, or UA, is no longer just buying ads; it is about connecting the right player, at the right cost, to the right revenue model.

Türkiye’s numbers show the stakes

Mobidictum said 2,000 attendees came to the fifth edition of Mobidictum Conference, held at Lütfi Kırdar Kongre Merkezi on October 7-8. According to the company’s event recap, %63 of attendees were international and %37 were from Türkiye, while the event hosted visitors from more than 65 countries.

According to AppMagic/Gamigion 2026 data in the Türkiye briefing note, Turkish mobile developers generated around $2.76 billion in worldwide revenue in 2025. The same dataset says around %97 of Turkish mobile revenue came from puzzle games. That ratio shows how strong Türkiye’s global games showcase is, but also how narrowly it rests on one genre backbone.

According to the section of KPMG Türkiye and 212 data relayed by Türkiye Today, Turkish startups raised $559.2 million across 42 deals in Q1 2026. Of that, $534.5 million came from four games deals, with Scopely’s acquisition of Loom Games standing out on the list. In other words, in Türkiye’s startup ecosystem, games can at times be not just a major category, but the round itself.

Pokuch has the next PC date

For Turkish independent studio Pokuch, the next date is December 2, 2026. TechTimes wrote that the studio will launch its co-op sci-fi survival game Blind Descent into Early Access on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG.

Blind Descent’s Symbiosis System mechanic gives players the choice of staying human through technology or transforming into alien life forms to survive in an underground Mars environment. If Flow Games is Türkiye’s major signal this week on the mobile capital side, Pokuch represents a smaller but watchable production line on PC.
