Sardinia autumn festivals drive tourism beyond summer peak

Sardinia’s autumn festivals in October 2026 drew visitors to inland and coastal towns, aiming to boost local tourism businesses outside the peak summer season.

Sardinia autumn festivals drive tourism beyond summer peak

Sardinian communities hosted a series of cultural and culinary festivals from Oct. 9 to 11, 2026, as local organizers sought to extend the island's tourism season beyond the traditional summer months. The events, spanning coastal cities and inland villages, highlighted regional traditions ranging from winemaking to historic craftsmanship.

These initiatives aim to support local businesses, including restaurants and artisans, by generating visitor traffic during the autumn shoulder season. By promoting rural and cultural tourism, the events provide an alternative to the island's coastal attractions, emphasizing the role of local food production and heritage in Sardinia's broader tourism strategy.

Benvenuto Vermentino

In the north, Olbia celebrated its winemaking heritage with the Benvenuto Vermentino event, focusing on the Gallura region's signature wine. Sassari hosted A Fora Li Brasgeri, a festival dedicated to outdoor grilling and local ingredients, while Alghero organized both an Oktoberfest and a family-focused festival to attract diverse visitor groups.

Inland communities participated in the Autunno in Barbagia program, which opened historic courtyards in villages such as Tonara and Gavoi to showcase local artisan traditions. Other towns highlighted specific agricultural products, including rice festivals in Simaxis and Vernaccia wine tastings in Solarussa, according to the 2026 program published by the Italian chamber of commerce system.
