Parcel Bomb Critically Injures Ukrainian Developer’s Family in Monaco

A parcel bomb exploded at a residential building in Monaco on June 29, 2026, critically injuring Ukrainian real estate developer Vadym Yermolaiev, his partner and their 13-year-old son, officials said. The blast happened shortly before 21:00 local time on Rue Révérend Père Louis Frolla, near the border with France.

Monaco’s government said the explosion was caused by a parcel bomb and described it as a deliberate attack. More than 100 police and emergency personnel were deployed to the scene, authorities said.

Officials said the explosive device appeared to contain bolts and pellets. The three injured people were taken to a hospital in the nearby French city of Nice for treatment.

Surveillance images reviewed by authorities showed an unidentified person leaving a backpack in the building lobby shortly before the explosion, according to officials. A suspect was later seen fleeing on foot toward France, Monaco’s government said.

Cross-border investigation

Monaco’s state services said they were working with relevant French authorities as investigators sought to identify the suspect and establish a motive. Officials said they were reviewing forensic evidence and information related to cross-border movement.

The incident drew heightened attention in the principality, which has typically recorded low levels of violent crime. Monaco’s Minister of State Christophe Mirmand said it was the first time, to his knowledge, that such an act had occurred in Monaco.

Victims and sanctions background

Yermolaiev left Ukraine several years ago and has worked in real estate development, according to the report. He was sanctioned by Ukraine in December 2023.

Authorities said the investigation was continuing and did not provide a timeline for updates.
