Israel Strikes Lebanon, Issues Evacuation Orders

Israeli forces conducted air attacks in southern Lebanon on May 24, 2026, resulting in the deaths of at least three individuals and prompting new displacement orders for residents. The Israeli military issued evacuation directives for 10 villages, primarily in southern Lebanon, citing alleged ceasefire violations by Hezbollah. This action follows continued hostilities despite a U.S.-mediated ceasefire that commenced on April 17 and was extended into early July.

The attacks, carried out by Israeli drones, targeted three vehicles on the Kafr Rumman-Jarmaq highway and the Jarmaq-Khardali road in the Nabatieh area. Subsequently, Israel ordered residents to evacuate their homes and move at least 1,000 meters away from the designated towns and villages. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun reiterated on May 24 that Israel's withdrawal from Lebanon remains a non-negotiable demand, ahead of upcoming talks in Washington, D.C.

Since the resumption of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah on March 2, over 3,000 people have been killed, according to the Ministry of Public Health. An Israeli soldier was killed and another wounded in southern Lebanon on May 24, reportedly due to a Hezbollah drone attack, bringing the total Israeli military casualties to 23 soldiers and one civilian contractor during this period. Negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, brokered by the U.S., are ongoing, with a fourth round anticipated in early June.
