Iran-Linked Group Hacks U.S. Medical Firm

An Iran-linked hacker group, Handala, claimed responsibility on Wednesday for a cyberattack on U.S. medical device manufacturer Stryker Corporation, causing global disruption to its systems.

The group stated the attack was in retaliation for the bombing of the Minab school in Iran. Stryker, based in Michigan, confirmed disruptions to its information systems and business applications, affecting thousands of employees using Microsoft systems.

The company's share price dropped approximately 3% following the news.

Stryker reported to the Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday that the full scope and impact of the incident, including operational and financial effects, are still under investigation. The company has not yet determined if the incident will materially impact its operations. Handala, first observed in 2023, has previously claimed attacks on oil and gas organizations in Israel, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.
