China's WZ-X Stealth Drone Nears Operational Maturity

New imagery confirms that China is advancing the development of its high-altitude, long-endurance stealth drone, designated by analysts as the WZ-X. The aircraft, featuring a serrated trailing wing edge, is designed to reduce radar cross-section and operate within contested airspace, according to aviation specialists.

With an estimated wingspan of 52 meters, the WZ-X is comparable in size to a B-2 stealth bomber. Analysts project the drone will serve as an intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance asset, alongside functioning as an advanced communications relay node.

Flight Testing Signals Readiness

Recent daylight operations suggest the aircraft is undergoing active flight testing, signaling a transition toward operational maturity. Military aviation specialists noted the photographs provided the clearest view yet of the drone's stealth characteristics.

The Chinese government has not officially disclosed the drone's specifications or its strategic purpose. However, its potential deployment would significantly enhance China's long-range surveillance capabilities in denied environments.

The platform was first identified via satellite imagery at the Malan test facility in Xinjiang. Its design indicates an intent to operate deep within defended airspace, providing intercontinental intelligence-gathering capabilities.
