Drone Found in Poland Linked to September Incursion

A drone discovered at a lignite mine in Galczyce, western Poland, on Thursday, March 12, is likely one of the Russian military drones that entered Polish airspace in September 2025, according to Poland's state news agency PAP, citing defense ministry sources. This finding, approximately 170 km west of Warsaw, marks the first time such remains have been located in western Poland, with previous discoveries confined to the eastern region.

Poland, a NATO member, has maintained heightened vigilance following an incident on September 9-10, 2025, when over 20 Russian drones reportedly breached its airspace. Police confirmed the discovery of an uncrewed aerial vehicle, noting its non-civilian appearance, while state broadcaster TVP Info identified it as a Gerbera military drone, consistent with those involved in the September incursion.
