An explosion on Tuesday killed at least 55 people and injured dozens in Kaung Tat village, Namkham Township, Shan State, Myanmar, a region controlled by the Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA). The incident occurred near the Chinese border. The casualties included 25 women and 30 men, with children also among the deceased. Hundreds of homes were damaged, affecting a significant portion of the neighborhood.
The TNLA, which is engaged in conflict with Myanmar's military junta, stated that the blast resulted from the detonation of explosives used in mining and quarrying operations. Rescue teams are currently working to extract individuals trapped under rubble. The precise cause of the explosion and the circumstances leading to the detonation of the explosives remain under investigation.
