3M recalls 53,634 Scotch laminators sold on Amazon

3M recalled 53,634 Scotch thermal laminators sold on Amazon on Oct. 15 after 63 incident reports, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a recall notice.

The model TL1302Z units were sold for $44 to $56 from June 2024 through September 2026, and the reports include five fires and one minor property-damage case, according to the notice.

The CPSC said the machines can overheat, creating a fire hazard that could result in serious injury or death. The affected laminators are light gray and white with gray accents, have Scotch printed on the front, a 13-inch-wide slot and a carrying handle on the right side.

Consumers can identify the recalled product by checking for model number TL1302Z on a sticker on the bottom of the machine or on the original packaging. The laminators were manufactured in China and sold exclusively on Amazon, according to the CPSC notice.

The agency said owners should immediately unplug the recalled laminators and stop using them. To obtain a full refund, consumers must contact 3M, complete an online recall registration form, confirm the model is covered and upload a photograph showing the unplugged laminator with its power cord cut.

After 3M receives and verifies the completed form, the company will mail a refund check, according to the notice. The CPSC said consumers should dispose of the recalled units under state and local electronics recycling rules and can contact 3M at 800-772-4337 or through the recall section of the Scotch website.
