Indian Youth Protest Exam Irregularities

Hundreds of supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a satirical social media movement, protested in New Delhi on Saturday, June 6, 2026, demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The demonstration, held near the Indian parliament, addressed alleged irregularities in national examinations and broader frustrations with India's education system and limited job opportunities.

The CJP, which emerged after India's Chief Justice Surya Kant's controversial remarks likening young critics to "cockroaches," was founded by political communications strategist Abhijeet Dipke. Protesters, some wearing cockroach masks, chanted slogans and carried India's national flag and books, symbolizing the right to education and equal opportunity.

Indian police increased security measures, including steel barricades, at the protest site and airport. The CJP's rise reflects a regional trend of youth-led social media movements influencing anti-government protests in South Asia. Despite its online popularity, some critics from the ruling party view the CJP as a social media phenomenon unlikely to translate into significant political mobilization.
