Startups Enhance Ukraine's Defense Capabilities

KYIV, Ukraine, June 2, 2026 – Startups are developing advanced autonomous naval and land drones to bolster Ukraine's defense against Russian forces. This initiative, supported by the Defence Builder accelerator and the Ukrainian Council of Defense Industries Investor Club, aims to provide military units with innovative, low-cost technological solutions.

BlueShadow, a Danish maritime intelligence company, is developing a system of 48 autonomous naval vessels, organized into four squadrons, to create a protective barrier off the Ukrainian coast. The first squadron, equipped with missiles and interceptor drones, is projected to be operational by early 2027. These squadrons will operate 10 to 12 kilometers offshore, addressing threats such as Russian drones targeting Odesa.

Concurrently, Estonian startup Telearmy is deploying remote-controlled systems in trucks on the front lines, enabling vehicles to be operated from hundreds of kilometers away. This technology reduces human exposure in high-risk areas. Defence Builder provides initial funding of $10,000 and a four-month acceleration program to startups, facilitating their growth and connection with military end-users. The Investor Club, comprising approximately 25 institutions, reported that publicly disclosed defense investment in Ukraine increased from $1.1 million in 2023 to $105 million in 2025.
