KOSPI Declines 6.05% Amid Tech Sell-off and Macroeconomic Uncertainty

The KOSPI index fell 6.05% to 5,997.99 during Tuesday morning trading, driven by a broad sell-off in the technology sector. Foreign investors offloaded a net 2.3 trillion won in equities, signaling significant capital outflows from the South Korean market.

Market volatility is attributed to concerns regarding AI valuations and increased competitive pressure from Chinese firms. These factors are compounded by investor caution ahead of upcoming U.S. inflation data and domestic corporate earnings reports.

Key technology constituents experienced sharp declines, with Samsung Electronics and SK hynix dropping 7.29% and 8.35%, respectively. The Korean won depreciated to 1,339.45 against the U.S. dollar, reflecting broader regional currency pressure.

Market participants are currently monitoring the U.S. Consumer Price Index release for indications regarding the Federal Reserve’s upcoming policy trajectory. The current sell-off highlights heightened sensitivity to global interest rate expectations and sector-specific valuation risks.
