Russian Strikes Kill Five in Ukraine

Russian missile and drone attacks on June 9, 2026, resulted in five fatalities and numerous injuries across Ukraine's Kharkiv and Donetsk regions, coinciding with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's diplomatic engagements with U.S. envoys. In the northeastern Kharkiv region, a pregnant woman and two other individuals were killed in missile strikes on Chuhuiv, which also injured six people and damaged residential and commercial properties. Separately, 16 people, including children, were wounded in a drone attack on the city of Kharkiv.

In the Donetsk region, two individuals died in Bilozerske and Druzhkivka, with an additional 11 injured in Sloviansk and Shabelkivka. These attacks follow intensified Ukrainian long-range drone strikes on Russian oil facilities and large-scale Russian air assaults on Ukraine. The ongoing conflict has prompted fuel shortages in Russia.

Amidst the military actions, President Zelenskyy engaged in discussions with U.S. special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, expressing gratitude for their commitment to reinvigorate diplomacy aimed at ending the conflict. Zelenskyy also held talks with British, French, and German leaders in London, and a substantive discussion with French President Emmanuel Macron, ahead of the upcoming G7 summit in France. Leaders from the United Kingdom, Germany, and France reiterated their unwavering support for Ukraine, planning to coordinate further pressure on Russia's war economy and increase military aid through upcoming international summits.
