Deloitte Fined £6.05 Million for Audit Failures Regarding Go-Ahead Group

The UK Financial Reporting Council has imposed a £6.05 million fine on Deloitte following audit failures concerning the Go-Ahead Group between 2016 and 2020. The penalty was reduced from an initial £11 million due to the firm's cooperation and admissions during the investigation.

The audit breaches involved three rail subsidiaries, including London & South Eastern Railway. Investigations revealed that the auditor failed to identify fraud risk factors and did not sufficiently scrutinize the retention of erroneous government overpayments.

These failures occurred as the transport operator neglected contractual obligations to disclose financial discrepancies to the Department for Transport. The resulting regulatory action highlights systemic weaknesses in auditing oversight regarding public-private rail franchise agreements and corporate governance compliance.
