Ohio AG Yost Steps Down

Ohio Attorney General Yost Announces Resignation Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost will resign from office on May 7, according to two sources, creating a vacancy in a key statewide position months before the November general election. This unexpected departure necessitates an appointment by Governor Mike DeWine to fill the role of Ohio's chief law enforcement official for the remainder of the year.

The resignation could trigger a series of appointments if Governor DeWine selects Keith Faber, the current state auditor and Republican nominee for attorney general, to succeed Yost. Such a move would then require an appointment to the state auditor position. Alternatively, the governor could appoint an interim official not seeking election to the office.

Yost, who assumed the Attorney General position in 2019, is term-limited and ineligible for re-election. His previous aspirations for the governorship were curtailed asourceser Ohio Republicans and former President Donald Trump endorsed Vivek Ramaswamy. During his tenure, Yost supported Ohio's death penalty, initiated state charges in the House Bill 6 bribery scandal, and defended the state against lawsuits concerning abortion restrictions and a ban on gender-affirming care for minors.
