Ocarina of Time remake may top Zelda file sizes at 27GB

A Turkish gaming report cites a purported Japanese eShop card; the figure remains a leak rather than a Nintendo-disclosed file size.

Ocarina of Time remake may top Zelda file sizes at 27GB

Ocarina of Time remake may require a 27GB digital download on consoles, Merlin'in Kazanı reported Oct. 20, citing a purported Japanese Nintendo eShop card shared on social media.

The 27GB figure would put the remake above two recent mainline Zelda releases: Breath of the Wild at 24.1GB and Tears of the Kingdom at 20GB, according to the trade-press report.

Merlin'in Kazanı said the original Nintendo 64 cartridge was 32MB, making the reported remake download about 844 times larger. The comparison points to a much heavier asset package for the Switch 2-era return to Hyrule, if the card image is accurate.

The report attributed the larger size to modern graphics, higher-resolution textures, cinematic presentation and added voice work. It also cited Digital Foundry analyses as expecting 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second in television mode.

The same report said the remake adds side quests and a “Hall of Fallen Heroes” area where players can re-fight defeated bosses. Those additions, if present at launch, would make this more than a straight visual rebuild of the Nintendo 64 game.

The sourcing remains limited.

Atlas360 reported Oct. 19 that a 93-second video from Stephen Totilo compared three interface modes for the remake, adding to pre-release scrutiny of how Nintendo is updating the 64-bit Zelda classic.

Merlin'in Kazanı said the game is scheduled to launch Nov. 5 and that digital preorder players are expected to get early loading roughly a week before release, based on Nintendo’s usual launch timing.
