Report: New Super Smash Bros game could arrive in 2027, YouTuber claims

A new installment in Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros franchise is reportedly in development and could be released as early as 2027, according to a May 3 post on X by YouTuber Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly.

Reilly, who is known for game-development interviews, wrote that Nintendo has multiple high-profile projects in the pipeline, including a new Super Smash Bros title “in the next year or two.” If accurate, that timeline could point to a launch in late 2026 or 2027.

What’s known so far

Nintendo has not announced a new Super Smash Bros game, and no official details have been disclosed about the roster, platforms, or whether it would be an entirely new entry or an expanded version of a prior title.

Reilly also said he may share additional details on a podcast later in May.

Sakurai comments and prior claims

The report follows earlier public comments from series creator Masahiro Sakurai, who has said he believes Nintendo would continue the franchise.

Reilly has previously claimed that Sakurai agreed to return to work on another Super Smash Bros game on the condition that he could first complete his “passion project,” Kirby Air Riders.
