Meta develops ‘agentic’ AI assistant for everyday tasks as spending draws investor scrutiny

Meta Platforms is developing an advanced artificial intelligence assistant designed to carry out everyday tasks for users, according to a Financial Times report published Tuesday, May 5, as investors scrutinize the company’s rising AI spending.
The social media company is building so-called “agentic” tools, including a personalized digital assistant powered by its new Muse Spark AI model, the report said.
Internal testing and comparisons to OpenClaw The assistant is being tested internally by Meta staff, with the goal of developing a product similar to OpenClaw, an AI system owned by OpenAI.
OpenClaw can connect to multiple hardware and sosourcesware tools and learn from data it produces with less human intervention than a traditional chatbot.
Separately, The Information reported that Meta is training an internal AI agent codenamed “Hatch,” inspired by OpenClaw, with internal testing targeted for completion by the end of June.
Instagram shopping agent and AI investment Meta also plans to integrate a separate agentic shopping tool into Instagram, with a launch targeted before the fourth quarter of this year, according to The Information.
The company recently raised its annual capital spending forecast, signaling plans to invest billions more in AI infrastructure even as it confronts potential losses linked to a global youth backlash against social media platforms.
