Regulators May Force Manchester City Sale Over Financial Misconduct
Football Regulator holds the authority to force a sale of Manchester City if findings of $1.17 billion in financial misconduct are upheld on appeal.

Football Regulator (IFR) maintains the authority to mandate the divestment of Manchester City if current findings of financial impropriety are upheld. An independent commission previously determined the club circumvented league regulations, resulting in the inflation of revenues and reduction of costs by approximately $1.17 billion over nine seasons.
The commission further identified deliberate efforts by the club to obstruct the investigative process. While the club has formally appealed the verdict, the IFR chair confirmed the body possesses absolute power to remove owners deemed unfit or lacking in propriety.
Regulatory intervention remains contingent upon the final outcome of the ongoing appeal process. The IFR has signaled that any potential investigation into the club will be conducted independently, with the chair pledging to resign if political interference occurs regarding diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates.
