US Seizes Tankers, Lebanon-Israel Talks Begin

U.S. Intercepts Tankers, Lebanon-Israel Talks Set The United States military on Friday fired upon two Iran-flagged oil tankers to prevent them from docking at an Iranian port, enforcing a U.S. blockade in the region. Concurrently, the U.S. expects a response from Iran regarding a peace proposal, as indicated by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

In a separate development, representatives from Lebanon and Israel are scheduled to hold two days of intensive talks in Washington, D.C., on May 14 and 15. These discussions aim to establish lasting peace and security arrangements, building on previous meetings held on April 14 and 23. The State Department stated these talks seek to move beyond past approaches that allowed terrorist groups to operate and undermine regional stability.

The U.S. military also reported redirecting 57 commercial vessels and disabling four as part of its blockade efforts to control maritime traffic to and from Iranian ports.

Meanwhile, an adviser to Iran's supreme leader, Mohammad Mokhber, asserted Iran's control over the Strait of Hormuz, comparing its strategic importance to an "atomic bomb" and indicating intentions to potentially alter its legal regime. Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed group, claimed responsibility for launching missiles at an Israeli military base on Friday in response to Israeli actions, while Lebanese authorities reported five fatalities from Israeli strikes.
