Lisandro Martinez walks back criticism of Manchester United board
Lisandro Martinez retracted criticism of Manchester United’s board, citing frustration after a 2–0 Champions League loss to Atletico Madrid.

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez retracted critical comments regarding the club's board and technical director Jason Wilcox on Wednesday. The reversal follows the team's 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
Martinez had previously questioned the club's commitment to squad improvements. He attributed the initial remarks to the emotional impact of the loss in a social media statement published Oct. 15, 2026.
"After the match, I spoke out of anger and frustration at not getting the result we all wanted," Martinez said. The defender emphasized his belief in the current squad and coaching staff, adding that he remains focused on competing for top honors.
Manchester United has recorded six points from six league matches during the 2026/27 season. The club holds a 1-1 record in its two Champions League fixtures to date.
