Iran initiated missile attacks against Israel on Sunday, June 7, 2026, targeting the Ramat David airbase. This action followed Iranian warnings that Israel must cease its military operations in southern Lebanon. The Israeli army reported intercepting all incoming missiles, with sirens activated across various locations in Israel starting at approximately 10:00 PM local time (19:00 GMT).
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the strikes, stating they were a response to what it described as "widespread killing and displacement" in the Tyre and Nabatieh regions of southern Lebanon. The IRGC characterized the operation as a warning, indicating that further Israeli aggression would lead to broader responses targeting "American-Zionist targets" in the region. Mohsen Rezaee, military adviser to Iran's supreme leader, reiterated that Iran would not tolerate ceasefire violations or aggression against Lebanon.
The missile launches occurred after Israel's continued operations in southern Lebanon, specifically targeting the southern suburbs of Beirut, known as Dahiyeh. Iranian officials had previously warned that such actions crossed "all red lines." U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to retaliate, citing the absence of casualties from the Iranian strikes and ongoing efforts to finalize a deal with Iran. Israeli officials had earlier indicated plans for a "forceful response."
