Google said on May 5, 2026 that its Gemini for Home voice assistant is receiving an “intelligence upgrade” to the Gemini 3.1 model as part of its May/Spring 2026 updates for the Google Home app.
The company said Gemini 3.1’s advanced reasoning is designed to help the assistant better interpret and execute complex, multi-step voice commands. Google noted that the same Gemini 3.1 model is available in the Gemini app as the “Pro” model and also powers Gemini Live.
With the upgrade, users should be able to complete tasks that previously required multiple requests with a single command. Google gave the example of adding new items and updating existing lists in one request.
Google said the improvements also apply to controlling smart home devices and handling common tasks such as setting alarms, creating reminders, and managing calendar entries.
The Gemini 3.1 upgrade has been fully rolled out to all early access users.
Separately, Google previewed an upcoming “Ask Home” feature for home.google.com. The company said the website will support conversational searches of camera history, device checks, and automation creation, alongside existing web controls for viewing camera streams and managing devices and automations.
