Commonwealth Bank has reached an in-principle agreement with the Finance Sector Union, concluding a period of protracted labor negotiations. The deal covers 35,000 employees across the bank and its Bankwest subsidiary, providing wage increases over a three-year term.
Lowest-paid staff are guaranteed a 13 percent cumulative pay increase throughout the duration of the agreement. This settlement mitigates immediate industrial action risks and stabilizes operational costs for the institution.

The agreement also mandates the formation of a joint committee dedicated to artificial intelligence. This body is tasked with managing the integration of automated technologies and addressing workforce transitions resulting from digital transformation.
By formalizing these terms, the bank establishes a framework for managing labor relations and technological adoption. The inclusion of an AI-focused committee reflects an emerging trend in corporate governance to address workforce displacement concerns proactively.
