Bumble in Advanced Acquisition Negotiations Valued at $1 Billion

Bumble is currently in advanced negotiations regarding a potential acquisition by technology holding company Ithaca. The proposed transaction is valued at approximately $1 billion and could be finalized as early as this week.

Market reaction to the report resulted in a 50% increase in Bumble’s share price. Despite this surge, the company’s current valuation remains significantly below its $14 billion peak following its 2021 initial public offering.

The potential sale follows a period of sustained operational challenges for the firm, including a 30% workforce reduction in 2025. The company has struggled with slowing user growth and shifting consumer preferences away from digital dating platforms toward in-person social activities.

Strategic changes, including the removal of the platform's signature female-first messaging requirement, have failed to reverse broader industry trends of declining engagement. This acquisition attempt reflects the ongoing consolidation and valuation pressures facing the online dating sector as monetization of the user base becomes increasingly difficult.
