Capcom plans to add AI-assisted programming, testing and workflow tools to its RE Engine through a project called REX, according to an International Business Times report . The company says the rollout will be gradual and that it won’t use AI-generated assets in its games; so far, this is Capcom’s account as relayed by one outlet.
Why it matters
The practical split is between tools used to make a game and content shipped to players. If REX works as planned, Capcom’s developers could receive assistance with programming, testing and workflows without putting AI-generated assets into finished games. Players may therefore notice the policy boundary more than the technology itself. The counter-read is that an asset ban could still coexist with consequential changes to developers’ responsibilities, review work and accountability as the tools are introduced. Policy lines are neat; production pipelines are less cooperative. How Capcom applies that boundary will matter as much as how it describes it.
What we don't know
- Which programming, testing or workflow tasks will receive AI assistance first?
- How will Capcom review AI-assisted code and testing results before they enter production?
- What standard will Capcom use to define an AI-generated asset?
Watch for
Capcom’s first REX implementation update should show whether the project remains focused on development assistance or expands closer to finished game content.
