AMD to Acquire World Labs for $8.2 Billion

AMD has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire AI research firm World Labs in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $8.2 billion. The acquisition is scheduled to close by the end of the current calendar year.

Upon completion, World Labs co-founder Dr. Fei-Fei Li will join AMD as Executive Vice President and Chief Scientist, reporting directly to the CEO. The integration of the World Labs team is intended to accelerate AMD’s development of hardware, software, and systems tailored to emerging AI model architectures.

This transaction represents a strategic shift for AMD to align its compute platform roadmap with the evolving requirements of non-LLM foundation models.
