Aldi has committed to a £900 million capital expenditure program in the UK, marking a £100 million increase over previous cycles. The investment supports the planned opening of 40 new stores annually, aiming for a long-term footprint of 1,500 locations across the UK and Ireland. This expansion follows a record fiscal year in which the firm reported £19 billion in revenue, representing a 5% year-over-year increase.
Despite revenue growth, annual profits contracted by £2.6 million to £433 million, attributed to aggressive price-cutting strategies amidst persistent inflationary pressures. The firm currently maintains a competitive position against established market leaders, with management citing a 2.8% grocery inflation rate as a primary operational headwind. Climate-related risks to domestic crop yields remain a significant factor in long-term supply chain stability.
To mitigate import reliance, the firm has pledged to source at least 50% of products through long-term supplier agreements by 2026. Strategic partnerships with third-party delivery platforms are being utilized to enhance market reach, though the absence of like-for-like store performance data complicates broader sector growth assessments.
