Tech Stocks Edge Up on Anthropic IPO Hopes
Tech sector gains on talk of an Anthropic IPO helped offset pressure from high oil prices and elevated sovereign yields.

Tech stocks rose on September 29, 2026, after optimism about a potential Anthropic IPO lifted sentiment while high oil and sovereign yields limited gains.
Equity benchmarks advanced modestly, traders said, even as oil prices stayed near recent highs and long-term government bond yields remained elevated.
Sovereign yields act as a reference price for risk assets, raising discount rates for future cash flows and adding pressure to borrowing costs for governments, companies and households, analysts said.
Anthropic IPO optimism
Talk of a possible listing for Anthropic pushed buying toward AI and cloud software names as investors rotated into anticipated winners, market participants said. That demand helped cushion broader equity indices against the headwinds from energy and rates.
Higher oil prices and elevated sovereign yields increase operating and financing costs for profit-sensitive firms and reduce the present value of distant earnings, portfolio managers said. Portfolio strategists added that, if yields stay elevated, technology valuations could face renewed pressure despite IPO-driven rotation.
Investors will also watch upcoming corporate earnings and central bank commentary next week for further signals on the rate trajectory, traders said.
Positioning will be reassessed by September 30, 2026, when month-end flows settle and any fresh updates on Anthropic's plans surface, traders said.
