Volkswagen announced a worldwide recall of about 2.86 million vehicles over a potential steering corrosion risk, officials said, heightening repair costs and reputational pressure.
Officials said affected models include VW Tiguan, Touran, Golf and Caddy built between 2013 and 2024, and roughly 700,000 Audi vehicles manufactured from 2017 to 2024. The company will notify owners and advise inspections and part replacements, officials said.
Officials said the fault involves corrosion in steering components that can impair steering control if unchecked; they added that inspections will determine which parts require replacement.
2.86 million cars recalled
The recall spans a wide model and vintage range, increasing the scale of parts, labour and logistics needed for repairs. Officials said dealers and service centres will face higher workloads and that parts demand could rise sharply in affected markets.
