Trump Requests $87.6 Billion War Funding

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump formally requested $87.6 billion in supplemental funding from Congress on Wednesday to support ongoing military operations against Iran. The proposal, submitted by the Office of Management and Budget, includes $67 billion specifically earmarked for the Department of Defense to cover personnel, readiness, and the replenishment of munitions stocks.

The funding request faces significant legislative hurdles as it follows a recent Senate vote on a war powers resolution challenging the administration's military engagement. While the White House seeks to secure resources for the conflict, the proposal includes domestic spending incentives, such as $11.1 billion in farm aid and $1 billion for infrastructure improvements at New York’s Penn Station, to broaden its appeal among lawmakers.

Congressional opposition remains high, with Democratic leadership signaling resistance to the package, citing concerns over the war's objectives and the inclusion of unrelated Pentagon priorities. The request arrives as internal Republican divisions over the conflict intensify, complicating the administration's efforts to secure approval ahead of the November midterm elections.

The remaining $20.6 billion of the request is allocated toward non-defense initiatives, including international health responses and domestic public works projects.
