Six Planets Align in Rare Celestial Event

Six planets, Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, Mercury, Neptune, and Uranus, will align in the night sky from February 28, 2026, for several days, a rare astronomical event visible globally. This alignment occurs as the planets' orbital paths bring them into a similar area of the sky from Earth's perspective, a phenomenon less common than four or five-planet alignments.

Four of these planets—Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, and Mercury—will be visible to the naked eye, while Neptune and Uranus will require binoculars or a telescope for observation. This planetary configuration is temporary; Mercury's visibility will diminish by mid-week, though Jupiter and Venus will remain easily observable for months following the alignment.

Astronomers note that while a full seven-planet alignment occurred in 2025, the next such event is not anticipated until 2040. This current six-planet alignment offers a distinct viewing opportunity for observers in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, with specific viewing times and orientations varying by location.
