Russia Launches Hypersonic Missile on Kyiv

Russian forces launched a large-scale missile and drone attack on Kyiv and the surrounding region on Sunday, utilizing a hypersonic Oreshnik ballistic missile for the third time in the conflict. The assault resulted in at least four fatalities and dozens of injuries, with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reporting 83 confirmed injuries since midnight. The attack primarily targeted Kyiv, causing widespread damage to residential buildings, a market, schools, and critical infrastructure.

The Oreshnik missile strike hit the city of Bila Tserkva in the Kyiv region. Russia's Ministry of Defense confirmed the use of the Oreshnik, alongside Iskander, Kinzhal, and Zircon missiles, stating the attacks targeted Ukrainian military command facilities, air bases, and other military enterprises. This action was described by Russia as retaliation for Ukrainian strikes on civilian facilities within Russian territory.

The Ukrainian government reported that the attack involved approximately 600 drones and 90 missiles of various types, including 36 ballistic missiles. While some were intercepted, a significant number impacted Kyiv. Damage was reported across every district of Kyiv, affecting civilian infrastructure, including a water supply facility, a market, and Art Museum. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry building also sustained light damage, marking its first damage since World War II.
